Happy Birthday Terry.
I hope you have a great day and a great 2012
today is my 65th birthday.. chances are you have no idea what that means.. would you like to know?
turning 65 can only be described using these two words:.
the first: anagnorisis the moment of critical discovery; the discovery of one's own identity or true character.
Happy Birthday Terry.
I hope you have a great day and a great 2012
looking at the 607/587 bce issue, i was wondering if the bethel could spin some new light to avoid embarassment and buy themselves an extra 25 years or so.. if it was 1935, they could claim that the call to close the doors to heaven was actually the real date of jesus' invisible reign and tie up two embarassments with one flash of light.. best i could find though, nothing really important happended then.
anyone else with better jw historical records think of an "out" for them?.
once 2014 comes, they are in for a major explanation.
I'm sure that they would appreciate any help they can get but 1934 doesn't really buy them much time and they would still have to answer what Jesus has been doing for the past 75 plus years.
Every significant event that I can think of that would relate to them has long past its value for them to spin. The invention of the hot air balloon. The flush toilet. The barf bag..... we maybe the barf bag. When was that invented?
I think they're should consider themselves fortunate to have a fan base that will eat any $h*t they shovel into the feeding trough and view it as spiritual food.
my jw grandmother passed away last night after a long battle with alzhemers disease.
she suffered a lot at the end of her life, a shell of who she ounce was, so i am happy she is at peace.
as i mentioned my brother died a short three months ago.
Sorry to hear of your loss. And sorry you have to go through the JW funeral experience. I've only been to one since leaving. Mostly the same old crap but a little better than the ones I remember from the past.
Do you have someone that can attend with you so you don't have to go alone? If you are sure you will be treated rudely by the dubs I would consider not attending. If they can't be nice even at a funeral what it the point in attending?
i am now officially by being announced at congregation level that i am no longer one of jehovahs wihtnesses.
that news spread like wild fire and i was dropped by all jw's on facebook, which shows the level of control the borg has in this area.
what is interesting is there was no juducial committee.
Tell them to pick up their marbles and go home. You're not playing any more by their dumb a$$ rules. Good for you! Well done!
Time to bring out the bubblie or one of these Free at last!!
i'll be in reno for the above dates.
i am actually meeting my first bible student/friend, (she doesn't attend and has moved on), for a few days at her work function, i think at the golden nugget.
if there are is anybody in the area who would like to meetup for a cuppa or drink, let me know, pm me.
The Nugget is really a nice Casino. They have a lot of conventions there. I usually stay at the Atlantis.
Are you going to fly directly into Reno. If so how?
i hope this is n ot a repeat thread.
new year's day i attended services at a first rate anglo-catholic church.
despite being episcopal since about the age of 20, this service was so different.
When I first started attending an Episcopal church a year or so after leaving the WT I assumed the term Anglo-Catholic was just another term for the Angican church in England or Episcopal church here in the US. I think I got this from reading biographies and other information on C.S. Lewis where they referred to his belief as Anglo-catholic. So I was familar with the term but didn't realize that it referred to more specifically the High Church Anglicans and their practices.
I've also heard Episcopalians say that Anglican/Episcopalians are not protestants because the break from the Catholic church for Anglicans came in 1534 before protestantism even came into existance. Yet I've also heard them referred to as protestants.
The church I go to is very liberal. We have a woman priest for one thing. There is another Episcopal church a few miles away. I went there once but nearly choked during the service because of all the incense they burned during the service. They are also part of the Diocese of LA but are quite different in views and worship than us.
I like a lot of the high church stuff but can do without the incense.
One more thing. Did you see Sting's "A Winter's Night" recorded in Durham Cathederal (I believe) the North of England? It has a lovely ancient feel to it.
i have been lurking on this site for the past 2 months.
for the past few years i have been going to the meetings and doing fieldservice out of guilt.. my husband (twisty) told me regularly i only do it out of guilt but i denied it and said it i want to do these things because i love jehovah and it is the right thing to do, but how can it be the right thing if you don't feel welcome and it feels like everyone is judging you the moment you walk into the kingdom hall.. it has taken a few years and a lot of tears to open my eyes.. over the past few years twisty spoke to me about the various things he didn't agree with but it just went over my head.
a few months ago we were lying in bed and he brought up his concerns again, and i'm not sure what was different this time but i understood and agreed with the points he was making.
Welcome Flicka and Twisty. Good luck with your family. There's no easy way to tell them and they may react pretty badly but at least you and Twisty have each other if they do the full blown dub shunning thing.
And welcome finally awake. Nice to see you here also.
i'll be in reno for the above dates.

Hey Dagney. I wish I could be there. I get up there a couple of times a year but won't be going again till probably March or April.
I don't think there is a Golden Nugget in Reno. I think you may mean the Nugget hotel casino in Sparks. We like to have dinner at Trader Dick's in the Nugget. Great Decor and lots of tacky drinks.
i really love it....seems like i am way in the minority as far as guys go though ...plus the guy girl ratio is sure not a negative for me!...but no that is not why i am there...i mean it kicks your butt physically...but i am hoping for this more inner peace thingy too......oompa.
interesting thing...i read on an inflight mag this week that yoga came from india ages ago and was only created by men for men!....women were verboden..... and what is the best way to find really good instructors?...my local ymca has classes as does a gym or two near me...and i have no idea how much certification these instructors must have.
.
I've always liked yoga. Even did it as a JW. I do a little yoga almost every day but seem to get more interested in it in the spring for some reason. It is helpful for keeping you in shape for other sports.
i now wear a sexy goatee and stach for cosmetic reasons actually...and of course this is not really allowed without penalty in usa jw world....they control so much of your life by endless pharisaical rules...and esp those about dress and grooming....they only allow hair a certain way on the male face...over the lip only....they do not control hair on the face of women interestingly...but funny thing...the amish require a beard...but the reason it looks weird is they forbid hair over the male lip...lmao!!!
!....and another cult....the hasidic jews require full beards and looooong burns....plus the funny hats and garb....hardcore muslim is full beard....mennonite wimmin no makeup and old timey full garb and some do have beards lol.
i researched it but still do not understand why so many religions try to dictate how god wants us to groom our beards......oompa.
I've wondered about this myself. Isn't it odd how people subject themselves to these crazy restrictions like there really is some divine point to it all. Then there are all the food and beverage restriction that people turn into special instructions from God.
